Songs Featuring tales
of sad clowns, diseased jugglers, fiendish gigolos' and many other scabrous
circus folk. The songs from the Tiger Lillies Varieté on one cd, produced by
Steve Severin and the Tiger Lillies.
Bouquet
of Vegetables - The Early Years is the final missing piece of the Tiger Lillies cannon,
our first recordings from 1989/91 which were only released on the cassettes,
'Bouquet of Vegetables' and 'Little Death'. Now back in the land of the
living on CD we are proud to present some of those early songs such as
'Palace of St James', 'Wrong Attitude' and 'Marseille'.
Bad,
Killer, Car Crash, Maria, Start a Fire, Soho Boy, Neighbour, Angel, Xyz,
Crack of Doom, Clown, Rapist, Salvation, Dead Souls, Swing 'em High This
release, recorded in London and Berlin in 1999, features the talents of some
of Berlins finest Turkish musicians contributing on some of our most profane
songs yet.
Same old
story, The pimp song, Pervert, Piccadilly Lilly, Queen for a day, Bank robber
blues, Gas bill, Maxwell, Billy's blues, Crude, If you knew, Soho news, Le
Havre, Dead. A strange, haunting, collection of songs. It's fair to say that this new collection is at opposite ends of the spectrum to 'Farmyard Filth', the former dealing with man's inhumanity to beast, while the latter deals much more with the troubles and pain of the human condition itself, and the cruelty of humanity against its fellows. Cheerful, no?
The
Strewwelpeter Overture , Cruel Frederick , The dreadful story about Harriet
and the matches , Bully Boys , The story of the man that went out shooting ,
Snip Snip , Augustus , Fidgety Philip , Johnny Head-In-Air , Flying Robert ,
Shockheaded Peter. The demented children's stories of Heinrich Hoffmann's Strewwelpeter, mated with the twisted music of The TIger Lillies. Shocking songs of naughty girls and boys, cautionary tales to chill the blood, all from the hit musical theatre show.
Farmyard Filth contains possibly the most extensive collection of songs dealing with zoophilia in recorded history. Flies, Sheep, Hamsters, German Shepherds, Giraffes, Pigs and Calves, a veritable Noah's ark of beasts are paraded before the listener. Other subjects include amputees, pensioners and transsexuals. You have been warned.
Roll Up (519K) ,
Tiger Lillie Line, Banging In The Nails, Sailors, Slough, Alone With The Moon
(629K), Terrible, Russians, Gypsy Lament, Heaven To Hell, Mortuary,
Nightingale, Crime, Old Gracefully, Reap What You Sow, Pretty Soon, Arthur,
Decline, Millionaire. Imagine Kurt Weill conjuring up images of prewar Berlin while a falsetto vocalist screams, squeaks and squawks his way through every number like some rambling madman, and you've got the picture. Their lyrics range from the subtle romanticism of 'Sailors'; to the outright blasphemous 'Banging in the Nails'. While the album deals with Jesus, prostitutes, junkies, deranged children and disillusioned angels, special vitriol is reserved for Slough. Apparently "It's grim up north but it's grimmer than that in Slough, I'll sing you a song if you drop a bomb on Slough ". It's funny, weird, disturbing stuff. Review by TIM ARTHUR, Time Out Magazine, 9 November 1996
Just re-released, this CD pre-dates "Births, Marriages And Deaths" for half of its material and contains other songs that were recorded at the same time as "Ad Nauseam". It's a cocky little mixture of the romantic and the raucous, the tragic and the terrifying.
AD NAUSEAM (tiger 2) Insane ranting, savage comedy, gut wrenching love songs and tragic tales. Fast, furious and frantic. An album of punk polkas, weird waltzes and lavatorial laments. Contains "Whore" featured in the movie "Plunkett & MacLeane".
The bands first album, a classic collection of slow brooding ballads full of bitter tales of death, prostitution, loneliness and despair mixed with jaunty songs of Hell and damnation. Contains "Hell" which was featured in the movie 'Plunkett & MacLeane.'
London sampling trio CONTRASTATE de and re-construct the Lillies in this 20 minute journey into the psyche and psychosis of England, Skinheads, The Royal Family and International aggression are whipped up into a cinematic hallucination that peels back the skin of Great Britain.
