CHAPIN pic’s
an Clips
This is all from the VERY long thread at the Gear Page, I
thought that some of you would like to see and hear Bill Chapins
guitars in a more digestible format.
Enjoy,
Anders
Some pics follow and a second page is here
I thought you might enjoy
a pic of one of the Houlas
we tested against the '62. The photo is decent, although the actual guitar
looks much "warmer" in person. I took this in the case just prior to packing
it for shipping.
anyway , enjoy

The rustic hawk
so a clip of one of our 24"
inch guitars would probably be totally unfair.. hey
who dropped this here?
24"
scale hawk clip![]()
that was both p90s together, here's
another clip of both pickups together except distorted and I'll throw in the
clams for free

clip 24" scale two p90s
The distorted clip was:

volume at 10:30-11:00
a single cad e-350 about 1.5 ft away into a mackie

Neal’s Houla
ok here are those clips. These were
done very fast so please bear with them
The first one is a clean sample which is an improvised
opening going into a tune of mine called Jimology.
The neck pickup I dialed in a bit dark to get a warm rhythm tone. I can roll it
up to get the brighter tones but I really like the way it has the darker end
without losing the strat character. I added a bit of
verb to the clean sample which was done dry originally run straight into a komet with 6l6 with the volume set at 9:00 on gradual mode
with everything else at noon except the high cut which I had set around 3:00
neck pickup sample
The second sample is clean bridge pickup dry
Neal's Stratahoula bridge clean
the 3rd one is a bit of dirty single lines bringing out the smoother rock
bridge tone by rolling off a bit on the bridge tone control (mine have the tone
control on the bridge instead of the middle) I added some delay just for the
fun of it.

Middle pickup clip
here's a very quick clip just for
laughs, played on neck middle.
neck/middle clip
ok, here are the neck/bridge and
neck middle samples
I did a quickie multitrack of 2 parts. The rhythm is
the same track on both clips and is Neck/Middle

Ok, a quick take using my

Ok, here's the neck and bridge in parallel.
Red
T-bird TVtron neck + hybrid tele/90 bridge parallel
the bit where it gets bright at the end is me picking fairly hard with
my nail very close to the bridge. I love the range of tone I'm getting just by
changing the attack (the TV jones in particular
really seems to help bring this out)
now the next clip is neck and bridge in series
Red T-bird TVtron neck + hybrid

Finally here's another take of bridge alone using the same setup for direct
comparison

Pale Rider
BTW DOC
that's what you said before the pale rider with Jeff's Bird, etc...
It's all good. I just keep trying to push myself and come up with minor
improvements on every guitar based on what I learn from building the last. at
the end of every guitar I ask " is there any way that it could be even
better?"
BTW here's the pics for those who prefer not to
thread hop.

Cornell Clips by BILL
uickie cornell45/50 12watt plexi side clip
I simply did a quick
pass to set levels then this clip. I threw the clams for free
Really a very nice amp. I'm going to borrow it again next
week to record with and I'll post some more clips.
Chapin T-bird
("red") bridge pickup , slight tone roll off
into DC45/50: high input normal channel,
12 watt mode, switch in 45 (tube rectifier) position
Cad E-100 mic 3 ft away
just a little touch of delay added in the mix
cornell clip
Now if
anyone is interested here's a clip of the 45/50 with a little help from a pedal
both in push and added distortion, the 12 watt setting low input, treble
channel, volume 1 o' clock, 2 clicks of an airbrake on the first one, 3 clicks
on the second one plus backed off the volume pedal a bit as well. If nothing
else it shows what you can do in extreme situations to get a tone at low
volume. despite what it sounds like this is at the level of maybe a fender princeton (later we were reduce to champ levels.) these are
snippets of longer solos from saturday's gig. Bear
with them, not the greatest playing but not too awful.

the second set of clips is the Gjika mini-amp through
a Dr Z Z28 into a single greenback reissue. after hearing the tone from this
setup with rico's hawk I'd name it the
"lasting-eyed" hawk. seriously though The combo of Rico's hawk and
this gjika setup really floored me...for me that's a freakin' tone.
I wasn't
originally going to even have the split coil option for the bridge...well I'm
really glad I did. I love the sound. here's the same gjika
dr z setup with the bridge pickup split

Rico's
"slow Burn" hawk with Cornell 45/50 on 45 side
This one has a cool thing going butI'm going to do another because the bass end is coming out a bit fuzzy , I might have overpushed the levels a bit on the bottom. still kinda cool. Rico's Slow burn" with Komet (6l6s).
Ok,
I took a different pass on a different tune. Bridge pickup,
not hearing the bass fizz this time. Rico likes a good deal thicker neck
than my own so I'm stumbled a bit here but I like the tone.

Rico's

Rico "slow
Burn" hawk straight into the Z28
I'll tell you the Z28 is quick becoming one of my favorite amps EVER....and
with this particular Hawk I'd highly suggest Rico to check one out.....lord
what a tone!
This is the last clip I got just before packing it up to go to Rico. This is just on the verge of break-up but mostly clean through the Cornell 45/50 in 12 watt mode. Just went for a BB type feel (ok one slightly irish twist).
