What is MTRA?

The Model Thoroughbred Racing Association (MTRA) is a simulated, or fantasy, thoroughbred horse racing group open to anyone interested in the hobby. The horses registered and raced with the organization are not real, and may be either paper horses or model horses as long as their pedigrees are realistic. The group was founded in the summer of 2005 by P.A. Gerschler and Daralyn Wallace.

Simulated racing is done as a game, with the winners of the races determined by calculating pre-race points (based on pedigree notes, previous racing experience, and trainer’s notes) and adding them to points determined by rolling dice (pulling names out of a hat is not permitted). No actual money is awarded as purses in any of the races. The rules and regulations of the organization have been formed in order to simulate those of the real American Jockey Club.

Our group is still young, and if you are interested in simulated racing of Thoroughbreds, this is a good opportunity for you “to get in on the ground floor” and develop your racing strings and breeding programs. We are currently seeking new members and would love to hear from you! We are in the process of developing a Mentor Program to help new members learn the ropes and many of our members will be happy to help you out with a race horse or two to get you started. If you have been a member of another simulated TB racing group but would like to try MTRA, we do accept race records and horses from certain recognized groups. Please be sure and ask how you can bring these horses into MTRA when you join.

MEMBERSHIP
Anyone interested in simulated thoroughbred racing is welcome to join. We currently have members from the USA, South Africa, Sweden, etc. Currently, there are no dues required of MTRA members. At this time, all club business and communication is conducted via our yahoogroups email list and all members must belong to the list. Go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTRA/ to join the email group.

Note: Just joining the email group does not automatically make you a member of MTRA. You must contact Daralyn Wallace at RaunFalcon@aol.com if you wish to become a member. She maintains the official membership list. Please include the following information with your application: your name, email address, mailing address (including city, state, zip code or country/country code if not in the USA), stable name, stable colors, and your birthday (including year, like this: 9/23/82). Your mailing address will not be not available to the public, but is kept on file in case one of the officers needs to contact you if your email is bouncing.
