Amritsar

Amritsar is a city in the state of Punjab near the Pakistan border. Most famous is the Golden Temple, the religious centrum for the Sikhs. The Sikhism is both a further development of and a reaction against Hinduism and Islam. Poo Nai's Amritsar has got his name because he is as golden as the temple.

Amritsar is also known as the city where General Dyers in 1919 ordered fire against unarmed civilians and 379 people were killed. This massacre became an important loss of prestige for the English rulers and strengthened Gandhi's agitation for India's independence. This event is also depicted in the movie "Gandhi".
