The Golden Voice Of Senegambia

Mouridism: Born in a Muslim family, Musa Ngum was the first in his family to adopt Mouridism. Most members of his family do not embrace the faith but Musa believes that every living thing is a Mourid. This belief stems from the fact that Mourid means, "from God we are descended and to Him we shall return". That is why he believes that all that represents nature: humans, animals, trees, rocks etc. are Mourid because they are the creation of God and all shall return to Him. Musa is a strong admirer and believer in the founder of the faith, Serigne Bamba. Asked why his songs are so influenced by Bamba and Touba, he says, "I feel ashamed to release a cassette without singing about Mam Bamba. That just shows how much I revere him."

Senegambia: Musa truly believes in the unification of Senegal and The Gambia. He says: "Africa is very big and I can only start from the beginning and that for me is Senegal and The Gambia and hopefully work toward the larger picture of African unity. I know that Senegal and The Gambia are the only two countries with the exact same makeup of peoples and cultures. That is why we have to come together as one people so that other Africans can follow suit and help in the creation of one Africa." A lot of people always wonder why Musa's shoes are not the same colour. The reason is that he vowed many years ago not to wear the same color shoes as long as Senegal and The Gambia remain two separate countries. The colour of his shoes represent a divided Senegambia: one for Senegal and the other for The Gambia.

Gambia High School Uniform: Musa has performed concerts in both the male and female uniforms of Gambia High School and this has prompted a lot of speculation as to whether he attended the school. According to him: "I attended not Gambia High School but Gambia Highest, in fact, Highestest School and I am about to graduate from the Bai Faal University." Watch out for these lines in a future song!
