A
weekly tour including a
canoeing-cruise, a sami
guiding and riding tours from ½ day up to a 2-day tour along the valley and
the mountain of Björkfjäll. This is a tour where you will find out the most
of this area. You will discover the nature and culture but still have the
comfort of a nice bed during most nights.

Sunday: |
Arrival
in Ammarnäs. No activity is included. Choose between accommodation at the
hotel or at a hostel.
|

Monday: |
At 10 am
we meet for a half day canoeing-cruise on the Lake Gautsträsk with lunch
outdoor. In the afternoon we do a visit to the twin sisters Margareta Grahn
and Berit Nilsson, they are recognised all over the world for their
outstanding handicrafts. Using birch tree roots, threads of tin, glass
beads, textiles and hide, they produce crafts that are exhibited in Europé,
Russia, Japan, USA and India. They have permanent exhibitions at the UN in
New York and the EU parliament in Strasbourg. Their work can also be found
in the Sami Museum, Attje, in Jokkmokk. The sisters will gladly tell you
about their work and the different meanings behind some of the patterns.

Tuesday: |
At 9 am
we meet and prepare the horses for a whole one day tour in the mountains.
After a few hours we arrive to a cabin by "Little Aigert", where we have our
sandwich lunch. Only a camp dry toilet at the cabin. In the afternoon we
ride back to Ammarnäs. The evening is free. Accommodation in the village.
We ride for 18 km and spend 5-5½ hours in the saddle.

Wednesday: |
The day is free. Indoor lunch or lunch box is included only when staying at
the hotel. In the afternoon you will be guided to a sami settlement at Lake
Tjulträsk where Mikael will tell you stories about the sami way of living.
The settlement lies beautiful under the tree-less mountains and out here
there are no roads or electricity. After a delicious dinner (included) we go
back to Ammarnäs. Accommodation in the village.
5-6 hour guiding

Thursday: |
The morning is free. Indoor lunch or lunch box is included only when staying
at the hotel. At 2 pm you will have a guided tour at Ammarnäs Naturum
(nature exhibition) where you will be informed about the nature reserve. In
the evening we will have a short riding tour. Accommodation in the village.
2-3 hour ride.

Friday: |
At 9 am we meet and go through what we will do on this 2-day tour and we
have some riding instructions. The horses are made ready and we start our
expedition to the mountains. We ride along the unregulated water of River
Vindeln. We try the special gait of the Icelandic horses, the "tölt". Up on
the treeless mountain Björkfjället there are some stunning steep mountains
and large vast expanses. The riding tempo varies from walking pace to
canter. Lunch is eaten outdoors. We ride about 900 meters above sea level.
There are possibilities to see reindeer, mountain-skua, buzzard and golden
eagle. Oppurtunity to practice Sami lasso techniques will come in the
evening . Accommodation in our cot on Thermarests an reindeer skins. Cooking
is done over an open fire or a gas fire. Only a camp style dry toilet
is available.
No modern facilities during the tour.
We ride for 25 km and spend 5-6 hours in the saddle.

Saturday:
|
After a few hour ride on the mountain plateau we go down into the valley
of the River Vindeln and then head back to Ammarnäs. Back in Ammarnäs a hot
bath in a wood-heated bathing tub will be waiting at Hedebo Gård. The tour
ends with a wholesome dinner and then a good nights sleep at the
hotel/hostel.
We ride for 30 km and are in the saddle for 6-7 hours. |
