Georgia, carried privately all the way. Westby was the Second Engineer
on the whale catcher "Norrona" which was based in Stromness. The
four and a half page letter concerns mostly family and friends but also
includes "I trust you have received the package I sent with 'Peder
Bogen' and also the one I sent
with Olaf Hansen, and now one is enclosed as well". Obviously carried by
one of the whaling transport ships from Norway to South Georgia. Interesting
postal history which shows how much of the mail was carried between Norway
and the whalers in the South Atlantic. Very scarce |

1910 Share "Hvalfangerselskapet Hektor
AS". This is the
first share issued by the whaling co. "Hektor AS" in 1910 in
Tonsberg. The face value is 1000 Norwegian kroner and only 450 shares were
issued. The share includes company articles and coupons for dividend.
"Hektor AS" was operating at the South Shetlands with "S/S
Hektoria" and "S/S Ronald", and established a land station at
Deception Island in 1912. In 1929 70% of the shares were sold to "Hector
Whaling Co. Ltd", London. Apart for some minor stains, the share is in
fine condition. |

whaling co. "Kastor AS" in 1912 in Tonsberg. The face value is 1000
Norwegian kroner and only 800 shares were issued. "Kastor AS" was
operating at French West Africa (Angola) with "S/S Benguela" . The
company had no success and was bought by "Hektor AS" in 1914. The
share is extremely decorative with a vignette showing a whale-catcher, a
whaling gun and the Norwegian flag. The share includes company articles and
is in very fine condition |
