Swirly pattern:

This pattern can be used in many different ways and has a really unique look.
Let's get started!
Make a new document 500x500 pixels with transparent background.
Then take out your elliptical marquee tool and draw a big circle, fill it with black.
With the selection still there, move the selection to the left a bit
by pressing on your left arrow key on your keyboard.

Then press delete.
Press Ctrl + D to deselect.
Now duplicate this layer by either pressing Ctrl + J or right clicking on the layer and choose duplicate.
Place the copy like this:

Then merge the two layers together by going to:
Layer > Merge Down. (Ctrl + E)
Go to:
Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 CCW
Then duplicate this layer and go to:
Edit > Transform > Flip vertical.
Place the copy like this:

Merge the two layers, like before.
And once again, duplicate the layer.
(Ctrl + J)
With the copy as the active layer, go to:
Edit > Transform > Rotate 90CW
Then merge the layers. (Ctrl + E)
Filter > Distort > Wave and use these settings:

And now your pattern is done.
Add it to your image and play around with the blending mode settings,
duplicate it over and over again and flip it around.
