Blueass BB är ett tajt, underhållande och rockande band och anses vara ett av de absolut bästa livebanden på de svenska blues- och festivalscenerna. De har överösts av lovord från både europeiska och amerikanska musikkritiker och har bl.a. jämförts med "the Fabulous Thunderbirds när de är som bäst". Blueass BB spelar en blandning av originallåtar och noga utvalda covers - och de skapar en sådan rockande grund med sitt råa, energiska sound att du kommer studsa upp och dansa från start! Tillsammans sedan 1981 har Blueass BB skapat sitt eget sound och sin egen stil. Genom att utnyttja sina kunskaper om blues, kombinerat med deras egna unika talanger, har de därigenom skapat en rå, energisk show som fångar den sanna essensen av vad "rockin' blues" egentligen handlar om.

Anybody who has ever questioned the ability of the Blues being played by non-Americans need not worry. Just take a listen to the bands in the Scandinavian countries of Northern Europe and you'll quickly dispel any notions to the contrary. I have recently been taking a closer listen to some of the more established artists of this region with new-found excitement. Hearing Swedish artists such as Sven Zetterberg, Pelle Piano and Knockout Greger Andersson has opened my mind to want to explore others. So, when Portland's own Burnside Distribution hooked up with the Swedish Blaze Records label, it caught my attention rather quickly. © 2003 Cascade Blues Association

BlueassThis tight, hard-rockin' quartet is considered one of the finest live acts on the Swedish blues scene. Its latest release, CROSSINGS, has been praised by Swedish and international music critics as reminiscent of the Fabulous Thunderbirds at their blistering best. Playing a mixture of originals and carefully selected blues covers, Blueass creates a rockin' foundation beneath a raw, high-energy sound that would make Hound Dog Taylor smile. Members of Blueass are: Peter Gustavsson (vocal/rhythm guitar), Ralph Broquvist (lead & slide guitar), Per Hero (drums) and Morgan Jansson (bass). Together since 1981, they have crafted their own sound and style by utilizing their knowledge of the blues, combined with their own unique talents, to create a raw, high energy show that captures the true essence of what rockin' blues is all about. CROSSINGS (Blaze Records, Sweden), their most recent recording, has been praised by music critics and radio DJ's throughout Europe and the United States as the "must have" CD for any Blues lover's music collection. Playing a mixture of original material and carefully selected Blues covers, Blueass is frequently compared to The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Performing year round in clubs and at major Swedish and Norwegian festivals it is no secret of their popularity - audiences love Blueass and can't get enough of their music. Rejält svängigt LENNART MATTISSON När Blueass Blues Band släppte sitt tredje album anordnade man samtidigt ett releaseparty på restaurang Kupolen i Karlskoga. Vi som var närvarande fick uppleva en musikalisk höjdare som näppeligen lär glömmas i första taget. Som live-band imponerar de och jag tror få band överträffar deras agerande på scen här i landet.
Som frontman har man Peter ”PG” Gustavsson, en ypperlig sångare och låtskrivare. Han spelar också gitarr. En något mera stillsam framtoning har bandets sologitarrist Ralph Broqvist som är motorn i bandet med sitt inspirerande gitarrspel. Som slidegitarrist måste han vara en av de skickligaste i Sverige. Övriga medlemmar är Morgan Jansson på bas, Per Hero på trummor, och bandets nye munspelare Johan Hjortsberg.
Till det nya albumet har man lånat in förstärkning från Örebrobandet Six Foot Seven & Cousins; syskonen Lena och Mats Strömberg bidrar med skönt blås på några spår.
That rockin’ rhythm & blues är ett mycket bra album som absolut inte får missas. Materialet är fint varierat och PG har skrivit åtta av plattans spår. Jag tror att en del av styrkan ligger i att ha ett bra eget material och inte förlita sig för mycket på gamla godingar. Här finner man endast två låtar hämtade från andra artister. Sugar coated love har inte Lazy Lesters swamp sound utan låter snarare lite grann som Gatemouth Brown. Hound Dog Taylor lär också ha betytt en del för grabbarna – här ger man sig på Taylors See me in the evening med lyckat resultat. Totalt har skivan 13 spår där glöden hålls vid liv från det första till det sista. Mitt favoritspår är Fool no more, en underbar låt med soulkänsla.
Detta är svensk blues när den är som bäst! Jag ser med spänning fram emot nästa steg. En Liveplatta skulle sitta fint. Ingemar Karlsson

varför. Med ungdomlig gåpåaranda, trots 10 år erfarenhet, visade de att det
finns en ny generation i svensk blues. Samspelet och grooven fungerade med
tryck, men kanske skulle bandet vinna något mer på flera dynamiska
tempoväxlingar. Svårt att peka på individuella prestationer när talangen är så
jämnt fördelad i bandet."(Palle Paulsson) "Finally I met the BLUEASS,
one of the main reasons why we went to Sweden.... The BLUEASS
was without doubt one of the highlights of the festival. A great rhythm section,
standing like a rock, knew how to back up Ralph, the quiet but excellent
guitarplayer who was in his element. It was impossible to disturb him, even when
singer/guitarplayer "PG" went for a walk amongst the crowd. Tor, a great
harmonicaplayer who sometimes reminds you of a young Kim Wilson without a beard
is constantly moving. Professionals as they are, the whole band dresses up for
the show.Their latest CD indeed sounded `live on stage` better than ever. They
did a brilliant version of, Hootchie Coochie Man` on wich the ladies in the
first line took of their bra`s to swing it around at the muddy rhythm. One of
the things flew on stage and after the performance that ended with flowers, the

Ett tag började jag misströsta att det bara var show som gällde, men så kom Ain’t no sunshine och förlöste mig. Därefter följde Mannish boy, där Peter Gustavsson hängde av sig kompgitarren, och framförde denna egenartade låt med ett utspel och en auktoritet jag inte trodde en ”nordman” var mäktig. Withers classical soft soulballad "Ain`t no sunshine"...Once again,I can`t help
being impressed by Ralph Broqvist. He is one of the "unsunged heroes" among
swedish guitarheroes of today. In the Texas rocksong "Voodoo girl" he plays
sharp rockguitar, just as sharp but more bluesy in "she belongs to me" and the
solopart in "Waiting for my baby" feels just right in the tempo, lenght and
tone. And also Hound Dog Taylors "Give me back my wig" appears so we can hear
Ralph Broqvist, get on with his slide guitar, it`s a reason good as any.Hound
Dog Taylor must be smiling in heaven.......or maybe downstairs?"(Bosse

PICK OF THE WEEK! "..Contrary to popular belief,blues with a strong soul flavour is far from
extinct....The band resembles the Fabulous Thunderbirds at their blistering
best..." "CROSSING" (Blaze Records, Sweden), har lovordats av musikkritiker och radio DJ,s i Europa och USA och är "ett måste" för alla riktiga bluesälskares skivsamlingar. Plattan distribueras i hela Norden, Be-Ne-Lux länderna och även i USA av Burnside Records. Blueass BB spelar året runt på klubbar, och på betydande svenska och norska festivaler, och deras popularitet är oomtvistad - publiken älskar Blueass BB och kan bara inte få nog av deras musik. Sommaren 2003 var Blueass på en succéartad USA-turné på den amerikanska nordvästkusten och "the response to the Scandinavian band was tremendous!" De gjorde då även ett bejublat framträdande på The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, USA:s näst största bluesfestival, i Portland OR. BLUEASS andra CD "Hooked on you" valdes till "Veckans Platta" i music
