Maura O'Connell

"Wandering Home"

Just when it seemed Maura O'Connell was leaning toward a decidedly contemporary pop sound, she abruptly changed gears and made an album with a predominately traditional spin to it. This shouldn't come as a surprise to those familiar with her live shows. Presenting sets of music composed of torch songs, traditional Irish songs, and pop, folk and country selections, O'Connell has always displayed a broad musical palette for her listeners to enjoy. The one constant is that Maura O'Connell has consistently shown her talent as a fine interpreter, often adding theatrical touches to her performances that add immensely to her live performances. Using some of Ireland's best musicians to accompany her and recording in Dublin, O'Connell pays tribute to her birth country with Wandering Home. Denise Sofranko

Reviewer: A music fan from Ireland.
I have been listening to this album now for over a year and I never seem to tire of it. Maura's voice is one of the most incredible I have ever heard! She can sing the blues with the best of them (Irish Blues) but can also be so sweet and soulful (that sounds like a contridiction but it's not) that you are really moved by her voice My favourite tracts on the album are her beautiful rendition of The Sally Gardens and the ever moving Teddy O'Neil. There are also upbeat numbers that set the feet tapping - Down the Moore and The West Coast of Clare. Maura is one of the MOST incredible artists of our time. A truly wonderful, talented and gifted artist
