"Stripped"
Underneath all her coy affectations
and vocal gymnastics lurks a rare talent. With her second album,
Aguilera allows it to flower by abandoning all pretense at courting
the teenage market. Stripped is a seemingly effortless move into
weightier adult territory. Using her extraordinary voice as a
much subtler instrument, she sings movingly and with grit and
anger about the disintegration of a relationship; she's ultimately
stronger for the pain. But that's not Aguilera's whole agenda.
Christina also extols the power of women on "Can't Hold
Us Down," which features Lil' Kim. Other guests include
Dave Navarro, Redman, and Alicia Keys. She cowrote most of the
songs on the disc and produced one cut. She also partnered with
former 4 Non Blondes leader and Pink collaborator Linda Perry
on four songs, which gives her a rock edge that she has never
before displayed. --Jaan Uhelszki |

I'm almost ashamed to admit it now,
but before i heard this cd, i thought Britney Spears's, BRITNEY
was actually a good album. I thought it was real and mature.
But now that i have heard Christina's album, Britney's cd makes
me want to laugh til I cry, because it is so obvious that Britney
is trying to grow, but Christina still just a little girl. She
is a woman who can sing about life exspieriences because shes
expierienced things. This is a wonderful cd, and if you didn't
like her first cd, then put it completley out of your mind and
get this album, because there is so much growth here, i can't
believe it has only been 3 years since her last album. Like how
she dresses or not, this album shows that she knows exactly what
a womans about. |
