John Corigliano
Joshua Bell

joshua bell.Leave it to composer John Corigliano and violinist Joshua Bell--two of biggest names in classical music--to team up and create one of 1999's best soundtracks. For many, the soundtrack to The Red Violin was just as impressive as the film, a moving blend of gypsy, folk, and classical compositions. --Jason Verlinde

Reviewer: carol irvin from Cleveland, Ohio
I was privileged to see Joshua Bell, the lead violinist throughout this recording, perform when he was still quite young at the Cleveland Museum of Art in the early 1980s. He played beautifully then but looked as if he'd be happier doing some other teenaged type pursuit. Well,he has completely grown up, judging by this recording, and now I can't picture him doing anything but playing the violin in heaven as his eternal role. This album deservely won the oscar for best soundtrack and deserved it. The soundtrack's overall composer, who accepted the oscar on the stage, profoundly thanked Bell for playing like a God. You don't have to like classical music to like this recording. I have very few classical recordings in my CD collection but this is a brilliant exception to my rule.
