"Revolutions"
Forget the hype surrounding the concert.
For the last decade Jean-Michel Jarre has been written off as
insignificant, as muzak, and even as Charlotte Rampling's husband.
He's still here, still selling records and this, his eighth album,
contains all the elements that have always assured him of success.
Jarre has a sound of his own, an ear for a pretty tune, an ability
to arrangement that tune dynamically, and an understanding of
rock rhythm that most New Agers lack. On that basis, this is
better than either of Jarre's last two releases, but doesn't
approach his earlier work. At times it plods insufferably and
predictably, not least in Hank Marvin's guest solo track London
Kid. There are, thankfully, a couple of direct hits, like the
blissfully lolloping Computer Weekend, which suggest that, given
time, he can still put it all together as he once did. --Johnny
