"I'm Diggin' It"
Though the smoky alto of this Muscle
Shoals native is rich with promise, the debut album by 17-year-old
Alecia Elliott suffers from a split personality. Much of the
selection is diva-esque balladry, with the Titanic-sized emoting
of "I'm Waiting for You" and "That's the Only
Way" making Elliott sound old beyond her years. Some of
the rest is kid's stuff, from the cloying social conscience of
"I Don't Understand" to the perky funk of the title
hit to the Shania-in-training "You Wanna What?". Yet,
on the album-opening "Some People Fall, Some People Fly"--cowritten
and previously recorded by Matraca Berg-- Alecia Elliott shows
how she can soar with a song that suits her. --Don McLeese |

I just bought this CD yesterday and I cannot stop listening to
it! It is by far one of the best I have EVER owned. Every song
on this album is incredible! I had intended to just buy her single
"I'm Diggin It," but decided to get the whole CD instead.
I'm really glad I did. I would have missed many great other songs
this artists so powerfully sings. I LOVE the title track of course.
Some other favorites of mine are "I'm waiting for you,"
"Every heart," and "You wanna what?" and
her version of "Some say I'm running." All in all,
though, every song is definitely special and worth listening
to over and over. I never have to skip tracks, which is really
nice. This girl definitely has bright future ahead of her with
such a powerful and soulful voice. I can really relate to these
songs and she sings them with such conviction for someone so
young! Great job, Alecia! You rock |
