"For My Broken Heart"
It's easy to understand why this is
one of the most intense, heartfelt albums that Reba McEntire
has ever recorded. It came on the heels of a plane crash that
killed her road manager and six band members. Though Reba McEntire
channels her sense of loss into these songs, her restraint is
what makes these performances so memorable. Her voice is powerful
and taut with emotion as she grapples with the tangled despair
of the title tune and "Is There Life out There"--both
back-to-back No. 1 singles. Other highlights include McIntire's
fabulous rendition of the 1973 Vicki Lawrence hit, "The
Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." --Bob Allen |

This CD was released shortly before my grand-father passed away.
Only after his passing did I realize the true power of this album.
Reba took her pain and put it into music. This has become the
soundtrack to my healing heart. Anyone who has been through rough
times will relate to this CD, and will turn to it time and time
again when life gets rough. From the opening "For My Broken
Heart" to the closing "If I Had Only Known", Reba's
vocals shine and soar and touch your very soul. Some argue this
is the definitive McEntire's collection, although I disagree.
Later works better show off her verstility and dynamic range,
but this is by far the most emotional album of her career, and
possibly on of the most emotional albums ever recorded by any
artist. |
