Lacy J. Dalton, who has a voice one writer
described as "honey laced with whiskey," took a circuitous
route to Nashville. Dalton, born Jill Byrem in Bloomsburg, PA,
she attended University but dropped out to become folk singer.Dalton,
kicked around Utah, Minnesota, and New York before winding up
in front of a rock band in San Francisco in the late '60s. She
married the group's manager, who died as the result of injuries
sustained in a swimming-pool accident.Dalton kept performing,
and a tape of her music eventually reached producer Billy Sherrill,
who signed her to Columbia in 1979. The Academy of Country Music
named her Best New Female Vocalist in 1979 on the strength of
her debut, "Crazy Blue Eyes." Lacy J. Dalton's distinct
sound and far-ranging musical interests may have kept her from
being the star she could have been. |

Ive said it plenty of times, and I'll say it again to anyone
who will listen. Dalton is a national treasure, one of the best
country singers-hell, one of the best singers, period- alive.
Few popular artists give a better voice to the aspirations, dreams
, and sorrows of ordinary people. I only wish she sold more records,
and had a recording deal. |

It seemes like she just disapeared from the earth. what happened
to her. I loved to hear her. I stopped what ever i was doing
or told everyone to stop talking and listen to that voice whenever
she came on. no one affects me the way her voice does other than
HANK WILLIAMS. She's in that class!!! |
