SA-43 Hammerhead
          – the right tool for the job

hh3.jpg (6229 bytes) Although the Swedish Air Force have a long and fine tradition of constructing their own fighter aircraft, they had to adapt when the war began. An international war effort means an international problem with supplies and logistics. A diverse collection of fighter jets does not help. Thus, the Swedish Air Force have bought the license to manufacture their own SA-43s, in their designation AJS-43 Lokatten (Lynx). The main differences are in the cockpit and the engines. The engines of the Swedish AJS-43s are modified to withstand the diverse climates of Sweden, and the cockpit is modified with displays and indicators in Swedish and a regular flight control stick to simplify training for the aviators.

The SA-43s flown by the Blue Flight are a crossbreed between the Swedish variant and the American version. It has the original fuselage, which differ from the original only in the Swedish camouflage paint job and Swedish markings, but it has a Swedish cockpit. This simplifies the work for the ground crew and puts less strain on the supply lines.

The bottom line is that the Swedish aviators have the right tool for the job.
