The second movement uses a melody from Karl Tirén's (1869-1955) Die lappische Volksmusik (p1942): "Till den Högsta guden" (sometimes called "Till den himmelske fadern"), no 149, the same one Peterson-Berger uses in his third symphony (1913-5). In New Music of the Nordic Countries (ISBN 1-57647-019-9, p2002) Per Broman shows the differences between their approaches (pages 499-500): Peterson-Berger setting it with a homophonic linear accompaniment, harmonized either diatonic or chromatic, Rosenberg ornamenting the melody, thus "making it almost unrecognizable".
