Comments; In 1930 HR composed radio theatre music for the same play. Felicia's song in act 3 (Lunas ljusa öga faller...) and the Song of the Nightingale in act 3 were taken from the radio theatre version.
Hans Holewa (1905-91) was born in Austria and settled in Sweden in 1937. He was active as composer, the first in Sweden with a deeper understanding of Schoenberg's twelve-tonesystem, but sadly underrated and not very well represented on cd (do get the one on Phono Suecia!).
The abridged Phono Suecia-release has cuts regarding "songs that contain a great deal of repitition, the middle section of the duet between Astolf and Felicia in Act II, Time's dance at the opening of Act III, a number of the hunters' choruses in Act I and III, and long stretches of dialogue in each of these acts" (quoted from the booklet note).
