Part 2. November 2003

Sort out

I start by sorting out why the engine only runs on 5 cylinders. And here what I found. The pushrods looked like spaghetti, bent as hell. Look at the picture.

5 pushrods bent like this. No crommoly quality for sure. Moore like some weak pipe thing. Not strange that the engine miss on 3 cylinder. Well, I will try to get some replacement rods to replace the damage one.

Here is the engine compartment with the 248cu. "Fireball Dynaflash Eight". Cool name on an engine, or what? On my Volvo the engine is called 5254 or so, how funny is that?  The engine is equipped with dual Stromberg carb.  I will change the oil, filter and sparkplugs and clean up the whole thing and paint it.

The interior doesn’t look so nice but remember it's a 63 years old!  I found a big rat nest under the rear seat. Probably some big American rats that live there for years. I use a vaccumcleaner to get rid of the rat shit and I’m not used to handle such a machine. (Yes my wife agree whit that for sure) Now I have taken the whole interior out and the rust inspection can begin.

The floor plate at the driver side shows an old rust repair of solder, but elsewhere it looks fairly solid.
