Part 1. October 2003

My new project.

I really like the fastback body of General motors from the forties. Recently I sold my Volvo street rod and start looking for one of this streamliner or Torpedo back to put my hands on. I got a tip that Calle Norberg in Strängnäs recently imported a Buick Special Sedanette from the U.S. I send him a mail and get some photos in return. Exactly what I was looking for. I phoned him and made the decision to drive the 500-kilometer trip to Strängnäs and have a closer look at it.

1941 Buick Sedanette shot in a parking place somewhere in the States. These are the pictures I’ve got on the nice Buick.

Me and my buddy Dennis Ljung fill the trunk of my Volvo 850 with every tool we can imagine, and then we go for a 500 km. trip.  After 4 hour of driving with only one short stop we arrive to Calle Norberg, the owner of the Buick. Well, the old Buick looks fine but the straight eight only works on 5 cylinders.  Very strange, said Calle, yesterday the old engine purrs like a kitten.  We dissembled the valve cover and try to sort out what's wrong with the old str8.  Then we notice some bent pushrods on the cylinder in back.  Ok. said Calle, we solve the problem like this, I will bring the car home to you for free and we cut the price a little bit.  I buy this deal full out and we drove back home and in the evening we empty a whole lot of beer, just celebrated the deal.

A few days later the old Buick finally arrive home. I just have to start the car and back of the trailer and in to my garage.

I’m going to put out some text and picture here on the Internet as the project moves on. I’m not intended to make a full “frame off” super restoration on the car but just take care of a few things that may occur by the way. I want to be able to use the car in all kind of weather and hopefully share a nice beer or more with my friends in the backseat…
