The 2001 PASSAT has small spoilers fitted to protect the front brakes from getting covered with water - one for each side. They will fit the B5 models exactly - you only need to remove the rubber washer from the under-engine cover.

The 2001 Passat has a plastic cover that is fitted between the windscreen and the firewall and it stops water & dust getting on to the battery.
