If you have downloaded the previous version of Mosaic, you may wish to delete mozipped.exe from your download folder. If not, you will be asked if you wish to replace the existing with the later version.
Mosaic is a 512KB download in the form of a Winzip self-extracting archive with filename mozipped.exe. The download protocol is http; you may be asked whether you wish to save the file or to execute it where it resides. Please choose to save the file, specifying the folder you normally use for downloaded files. When the download is complete, click on mozipped.exe in your download folder to unzip Mosaic. Winzip will suggest c:\mosaic as the folder for the installation; accept this, or type an alternative. In either case, the folder will be created automatically. The space required for the unzipped package is just under 1MB.
If the mosaic folder (or the folder you specify) already exists, Winzip will replace existing files with their later versions without informing you. The previous executable will not be replaced, however, as the names differ (eg mosaic10.exe was succeeded by mosaic15.exe). You may wish to delete the older executable. You should certainly delete any desktop shortcut you have created to Mosaic, replacing it with one to the later version. You should not drag the Mosaic icon itself to your desk top. This will not work; library files will not be found and the parameter list will be written to the desk top folder.
Read the readme.txt file in the new folder. All of the files included in the download, except readme.txt, are essential to the proper functioning of Mosaic.
Mosaic writes a parameter list to the folder in which it resides; it can be used to save partly-solved puzzles, to edit the puzzle library provided and to create and edit new puzzle libraries, always in that folder, if you use those facilities of the package. It does not otherwise write to your system.
Mosaic 1.9 is the last proposed release of the Mosaic package.
