Don't forget from the 21st May - 1st June I'll be QRV from Barbados as 8P9TS. I've had to make a couple of changes to the equipment I'm taking due to the airline's baggage policy, but for 6M I will now use a pair of 4 ele Yagi's, one for Eu and one for NA. These Yagi's can be selected separately or switched in phase. This will allow me to run in beacon mode to Eu and NA at the same time. Last year from C5 I had to keep running up and down some stairs to turn the antenna which wasn't nice with temperatures over 37C. I've weighed up the advantages/disadvantages of using a single Yagi and rotator and this A, B or A+B method with fixed yagi's seems to be the best idea. Unfortuantly we're staying on the West Coast of the island so no sea path to Eu, but a rising ground of around 2deg elevation. I will try and run a breakable Beacon on 50.102 when we are around the apartment. For HF I will have a Windom up at around 15M high, as with last June from C5, I'll use HF when the family are asleep and 6M isn't open. 73 Darren G0TSM (8P9TS/8P2T) http://www.8p9ts.com (UKSMG)080519 Cayman Islands, ZF2ZD, ZF2BI. They will have high power and a long boom Yagi. They plan to operate the daylight hours and into the evening. When they are not working people they will be in beacon mode to discover openings. They have chosen this time of year to coincide with the highest probability of Sporadic E openings to North and South America, Europe, and Africa. The QTH will be on a rocky point 70 meters above the ocean, on the northeast corner of the island, with a clear shot to the west, northwest, north, northeast and east. They request that you do not give your grid square during your QSO with them, to keep the QSOs fast. They want to maximize the number of QSOs during the brief openings. They will be in grid square FK87nv for those looking for new grid squares. They say they may also operate some HF RTTY and CW during the nighttime, 40 and 30M, when six meter sporadic E is over for the day. Ed says that experience since the early 1990s with a similar station shows that sporadic E openings on 6 during this time of year typically make it possible to make around 1,000 QSOs from this part of the Caribbean. They ask that you check their on-line log, http://www.w0sd.com/stbart/bart.htm, available starting May 15, uploaded nightly, and if you're already in the 6M log don't keep calling, so others will have more of a chance for a QSO. They note that paths beyond 9000 km are quite rare. And they say past experience shows they will be working many stations who have 100 watts or less, so even modestly equipped 6M stations should have a good chance. QSL via W7XU. (OZ6OM) Update May 10: The link above for the St. Barthelemy Dx-Pedition by W7XU, N0QJM and W0SD is now available. OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE for GLORIOSOS 2008: The Glorieuses 2008 dxpedition has to be postponed for some weeks. The High Commandment for the Indian Ocean south zone (French Forces) announced us that important works of infrastructure have to be built on the island. During two and a half months, starting at the beginning of June, anti-cyclonic shelters will be built to protect, if necessary, in the future, the military crews working there and some other important pieces of gear, used for the meteorological and forecast activities. Because of the important number of persons who will stay at the same time, on the island, we decided in agreement with the Commandment of the Indian Ocean south zone Forces, to postpone this Dxpedition after the end of these works. The exact dates always remain to be defined according to the operational plannings of the military transport in this region. We hope some good news allowing us to go to the Glorieuses at the end September or the beginning of October. This new delay will be used by the crew to perfect the preparations. We already thank all of you who contribute to the realization of this project, and first the Military Authorities of the Reunion island, as well as the financial and material sponsors. The authorisations are not cancelled at all. I’ll give you any new information, as soon as possible. 73 de F5OGL Didier - team leader for Glorieuses 2008 (F5NQL)080417 Scotland, GM0SCG. EU-008. My Name is Kevin Redmond, G6FKE. I am currently the chairman of Sands contest group (M0SCG) over here in the UK. We will be running a small DX-pedition to the Isle of Jura, one of the Inner Hebrides islands off the west coast of Scotland between the 22nd - 29th of September 2008. We are working in collaboration with Workington ARS and will have a minimum of 10 operators. We hope to run 3-4 stations , 1 on 20 and/or 15M SSB, 1 on 17M DIGI / CW, 1-2 on 80/40/160M and 1 on 6M. We are hoping to get 10K QSO's. We are praying for no solar flares... I may be barking up the wrong tree but you appear to have access to the N0HR website and I was wondering if you would be good enough to put our small DX-pedition on the 'map' for us nearer the time of our departure. If you have any questions then please mail me. 73. Kev, the hat. G6FKE. (F5NQL)080417 Christmas Isl., VK9XWW, VK9XHZ, VK9XOR, VK9XME. Oceania Adventure DXpedition. Turkey, TA---- SPECIAL-EVENT-STATIONS July 11 - 14, 2008: An Greek ancient system of communication with fire from torches above mountaintops is called fryktories from fryktos that means “the torch” in Greek. On 13 of July 2008 and after 3200 years we will be climbing up the same mountaintops with Turkish Hams and will transmit through the hamradio frequencies a message from Troy – located in N.W Turkey up to Mikines that is in Southern Greece using a special call on every mountaintop that the original message passed through. The same mountaintops are mentioned from Aeshylus in his drama “Agamemnon” and they are the ones that brought back to the Mikines city the message that Troy has fallen into the hands of the ancient siege army. But this time it will be far from a war message. The transmitted message will be passing along the nodes on the 2m band from one station to another. Mario K2ZD has asked that I put out some feelers to try to determine if there is sufficient interest for them to make an effort on 6m EME this summer from ZF. The degredation during their DXpedition looks quite favorable for each day, and especially good toward the end of their trip. They are planning on a kw and at least a 6M5X yagi, overlooking the ocean. I have taken a quick look at possible windows, and see that there is moonset window from ZF with moonrise in UN on June 30 and 31, and with BY on July 5 and 6. OH also has a short window with the ZF moonset on July 1. There appear to be no other obvious horizon-to-horizon windows with them during that period. However, they have lots of common moon time with JA's who can elevate during the ZF moonsets and with Europe on all their moonrises. One thing to consider is that they are very likely to have Es toward moonrise betweeen 1400 and 2400Z and Es toward moonset between 2400 and 0500Z. In addition to their being busy working Es during those time periods anyway, there is a good chance that the Es might block some of the EME signals if they are aiming toward the Es for their moonrise or moonset during those times. Please keep this in mind, and let me know if you still need ZF and if you would like any skeds. Mario says they hope to have internet access during the trip. I assume they will be transmitting first sequence JT65A for all skeds. Frequency to be announced. I look forward to hearing from you! My setup at this moment is: IC756PROIII, SPE Expert 1K solid state linear (max 900 watt) for 6m, 6 el. I0JXX Yagi (20' boom) at 20' a.g.l. ground is 20' a.s.l. For the next Es season I plan the following two changes: 1. My callsign changes in a couple of days from now into PJ4NX 2. I will put up a crank up tower, the 6m Yagi will come in top of the tower at app. 75' a.g.l. app. 10' higher then a 9 el. 5-band HF Yagi(by Optibeam). Both antenna's will have 340 degrees sea view. 3. Probably by the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 I will move to a new QTH that still has to be build, this QTH has a clear take of to the sea between N.E and N.W, so over 270 degrees, The QTH is app. 100' above sea level. I like contesting very much but I can not tell you (yet) in what contests I will participate next year. Another general point of interest about Bonaire(PJ4) is that the island will be a new DXCC after 15.12.2008. On this date the Netherlands Antilles will stop te exist as a country and all 5 islands in the N.A. will have separate ties with the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Like Aruba did in 1986), this means: 1. Curacao (PJ2) will be autonomous withing the kingdom (same status as Aruba) 2. Bonaire(PJ4) will form a municipality of The Netherlands 3. Saint Martin (PJ7) same status as Curacao and Aruba 4. Statia (PJ5) same status as Bonaire 5. Saba (PJ6) same status as Bonaire So this means quite a lot of interest in the Antillean islands but I will be ready for it :-) Best 73's Peter de Graaf PJ4/PA3CNX, soon PJ4NX (N8OFS)071122 6M Caribbean DXpedition 2008, V3 and HK0. "Thank you" to those who shared your thoughts for a Caribbean DXpedition next year. I have decided to go to both V3 and HK0 San Andres between June 19 and July 6. I am returning to V3 because last year's trip was too late in the season to feed the European need. HK0 demand is high everywhere so that was easy to decide. This DXpedition will have one...and only one...focus - SIX METERS. Small rental cottages are already reserved on the eastern shore of both islands. The budget for this two-island trip is a bit staggering and beyond my pocket book, but I am going to "go for it" believing sufficient financial support will come. Mick McManus W1JJ will be the DXpedition Treasurer collecting support monies,. Mick will also be doing QSL Manager duty as well. Pat W5OZI has agreed to once again be my Pilot Station because Internet access will be limited...as best. The station at both locations will be a KW to 7 elements within 10 meters of the Caribbean shore. Website http://www.qth.com/k7bv/caribe2008 is now active and grow as more details are firmed up.
