FEEDING CHART

Below is a suggestion of layout for a feeding chart.

You can use it as a basis when designing your own chart, or you can simply "steal" it as is.

User's tip:

Print your feeding chart (with or without the names of the horses) and put it in a transparent plastic folder. Hang the folder in the stable and write the amount of food (& the names of the horse, unless it's not already done) with a so called whiteboard pen on the OUTSIDE of the plastic folder. This way it is easy to make changes to the amount of food depending on the time of year and the amount of work each horse performs.

Instruction:

In the box for "time" you write the feeding times which you have in your stable. Next to the star in each horizontal line you write the name of each horse. In the vertical columns you write the feed types you are using in your stable, and under each feed type you write the measurement used (see example below).

The reason for having the boxes for hay in the bottom left corner as well is to make it easier to keep track of how much hay to put out in the field, while the amount next to the name of each horse is to know how much hay it should be fed when kept in the stable during the nights. The younger horses may go in the field 24 h a day but the older, ridden, horses are in the stable during the nights. This means the older are fed the evening hay in the stable and the younger in the field - and the morning hay is fed in the field for all horses.

Instruction of how to "steal" the chart below:

Right click on the chart, select "Save target as...", choose the folder in which you want to save the file and click OK.

Pick up the file you saved, dont forget to preview the layout BEFORE you print it out - so that you can adjust the size of the chart to your own needs.

NOTE!!! All details of the layout is NOT visible below - they can only be seen when opening the saved copy (see above)!

Are you sure you are feeding your horse what he needs?

To know that you are feeding your horse the right amount and that all the nutrients he needs are included you may want to have a look at the following links:

* Here you can have a lab do an anlysis of your hay and oats, AnalyCen is a Swedish company. On their home page you will find phone numbers, information of HOW to take the sample you want to analyse, as well as addresses where to send your sample.

* Here you can calculate your horse's personal diet On-line (with or without your own analyse values).
