Continuity and innovation
The first item on our programme is not the most important or urgent one, but it is the one that underlies our whole ideology. All our proposals for moving our country further into the future are respectful of the Talossan spirit, as it has evolved from 1979. Not all of them would have been popular in 1985, 1995, or indeed in 2005, but they are consistent with the spirit of Talossanity, as we view it. Talossa is doing what other countries do, but with a healthy dose of self-irony. And with the knowledge that being a very small country without control of its own territory makes certain things impractical or impossible - we will not cross over into make believe or roleplaying. But we will never be a just Yet Another® web community with wacky ideas, or a political avantgarde that aspires to solving the world's problems.
Immigration
It does not come as any news that more citizens is what the Republic needs the most. We have considered invading the Kingdom and capturing their citizens, but that's so 20th century, so we have some other suggestions instead. We want to try to seek some publicity in mainstream media again. There are some interesting angles we could go for there. We will also produce an introductory leaflet to the Republic to be handed out at such gatherings where would-be Talossans meet. And lastly there are inexpensive but promising advertising opportunities for small, specialized entities such as we are.
Strengthening the national identity
All nations have insignia and symbols such as stamps and bank notes. We will be working harder on this front. Not only can these be beautiful in their own right, they are also what catch the eyes of would-be citizens.
A common Talossan heritage
The split in 2004 with the Old Kingdom was as inevitable as the reformation of the Catholic church in the 1520s, and for very much the same reasons. But just as the Catholic church changed because of the Reformation, so has the Kingdom changed as a direct consequence of our Revolution, and just as ecumenics makes sense, so does it make sense for the two Talossas to pool their resources. We hope to be able to finish the first steps towards a formal cooperation on matters pertaining to culture and the language during the next government term.
Respecting our constitution and processes
All constitutions and democratic processes in the world contain minor flaws and loopholes - they are inevitable. However, we had the luxury of being allowed to design ours exactly the way we wanted them, and we will resist being drawn into the neverending process of amending and patching them forever. Once we start, we would always find something new to fix. We will not meddle with the constitution or democratic process of the nation except in dire emergency.
Financial reform
A Talossan economy has been proposed many times during Talossa's long history; actually, the first time by King Ben in 1979, and most recently by the UTP last year. As we become increasingly dependent on money for our Internet presence, and introducing advertising would need more money, this issue becomes more urgent. We cannot expect Mr. Furxhéir to pay for it out of his own pockets forever. If we are elected, the ZRT government will include a Finance Minister who will be responsible for proposing legislation for voluntary taxation. Mandatory taxation will however never be necessary - or even desirable.
