The attractive small Steyr 55 barely made it before the war. Despite the small outside dimensions it had room for four by placing the flat-4-cylinder engine ahead of the front axle driving the back wheels. The all-independent suspension twin electically driven wipers, reserve petrol tank and easily removable back seat was features ahead of its time in this price category. The brakes, however, were mechanical and the top speed  but 95 km/hour
