The history

Rammstein is a group consisting six members from Gemany. They are hard to place in any music-genre but their sound is something like techno inspired metal with really heavy guitarr riffs. The best thing to do is to buy one of their cd's and make your own opinion.

Lost highway The band produced their first Demo in 1993. Two years later their first single, 'Du riechst so gut', was released. The same year, 'Herzeleid', their first album was released. The international breakthrough came with the movie Lost Highway by David Lynch. In that movie they had two songs, 'Heirate mich' and 'Rammstein'. In 1997 they released another single called Engel from their second album Sehnsucht.
Rammtein has from the beginning been suspected of a fascist attitude. But if you listen to the lyrics you won't find anything that indicates fascism. Their lyrics are well written and is close to poetry. You'll have to read some songs a couple of times to completely understand the undermeaning with it.

The name Rammstein is taken from the city Ramstein where a flight show took place. Two planes collided and one of the planes crashed into the audience. The name was altered into Rammstein to give it a more powerful meaning. Rammen (to ram) and stein (stone), 'To ram stone'. In most of their lyrics there is a double meaning like this.

Herzeleid is Rammstein's first full-length album. It was released in 1995 The last track "Rammstein" is dedicated to the horrible flight-show accident in Ramstein. The whole album is a mixture of really heavy guitarr riffs, synth sounds and bashing drums.
Herzeleid
The music on Sehnsucht is more varied with more synth and sampled sounds than on Herzeleid, the titletrack Sehnsucht has Arabic choirs, Engel contains melodic whistling and female vocals from Bobolina (Bobo in wooden white houses). Spiel mit mir is full of strings and orchestral samples. Klavier starts as a folk song before the typical guitars start pumping. Everywhere in Sehnsucht there are weird sampled sounds and the album gets better and better the more you listen to it.
Sehnsucht
Now they've released "Mutter", their third full length album, and they still hold the high standard as on the first two albums. This one is not as hard as the two before but it's still a great album and I hope they'll continue to amaze me with their music.
