Problematic is a toolkit (for DOS), written by Don French
and designed to assist chess problemists in the composition
and solving of chess problems. He writes that "it has many
interesting and unique features, including a rather unique
problem database manager. A lot of effort went into making
it fast, and for awhile it was the fastest solver extant
(hundreds of times as fast as Chessmaster 3000)."

Problemiste is a french freeware program "entirely dedicated
to to the chess problem." Except French Problemiste also
supports English and Italian language.
Free Software
Although Popeye includes definitions of a very large number
of fairy conditions and pieces, its not necessarily designed
particularly for this purpose. It works (at least) as well
for orthodox problems. This is one of the most complete
problem solving programs available (but not the fastest).
