Popeye at LEO - /pub/rec/games/popeye

"What the hell is Popeye? Popeye is (besides other designations) also the name of a program to solve fairy chess problems. This page is dedicated to this program."
Although Popeye includes definitions of a very large number of fairy conditions and pieces, its not necessarily designed particularly for this purpose. It works (at least) as well for orthodox problems. This is one of the most complete problem solving programs available (but not the fastest).

The Natch home page

"Natch is a program solving a special kind of chess problems : proof games. It works on any PC 386 or higher, in DOS mode or in Linux."

"Problematic"

Problematic is a toolkit (for DOS), written by Don French and designed to assist chess problemists in the composition and solving of chess problems. He writes that "it has many interesting and unique features, including a rather unique problem database manager. A lot of effort went into making it fast, and for awhile it was the fastest solver extant (hundreds of times as fast as Chessmaster 3000)."

Commercial Software

Chess Programs ALYBADIX

"ALYBADIX solves all types of chess problems up to 100 moves, depending on the type of problem. In fact, the total software has the following 10 mate and the corresponding 10 stalemate programs, which makes 20 altogether, plus additional fairy chess and print utilities: ..."

Problemschach GUSTAV

"GUSTAV wurde geschrieben von Olaf Jenkner aus Chemnitz. Es durchsucht nur orthodoxe Schachaufgaben und löst diese bis 32 Züge. Dazu wird dann der entsprechende Schlüsselzug ausgegeben."
A program that solves orthodox chess problems.

Chess Program Demos

Some demos (including a demo of Alybadix--se above) available from Gambit-Soft.

"Problemiste"

Problemiste is a french freeware program "entirely dedicated to to the chess problem." Except French Problemiste also supports English and Italian language.
