Science

Science underpins technocracy so it is important to understand what is meant by science.

Science is both a body of knowledge and a method to build up that knowledge. The Scientific Method is rooted in philosophy and is based on three basic foundations:

  1. Science assumes that the world around us in real and exists external to us. The world is objective and can be tested. Anything real in the world effects something else in the world.
  2. Logic. Science uses logic to reason about the world and assumes that people have the ability to think rationally about the world. Logic is just a method of avoiding contradictions. If you try to avoid contradicting yourself, then you are thinking logically.
  3. Parsimony is the third foundation for science. Basically it means "keep it simple stupid". Than means that when scientist explore the world they look for the simplest explanation that fits the facts. This is sometimes called Occam's Razor.

To explore the world and to understand it, scientist then use a number of techniques, which can be classed as experiments or observations. The methods used and results obtained are made public and are open for peer review. Each scientific conclusion is subject to tests by others and can be disproved as more knowledge is gained. This way science builds up a body of knowledge that matches the facts as they are know.
