
The name derives from the latin word - lavare - to wash oneself. The medical men of the antiquity
prescribed this flower against the plague and other kinds of pestilence. A thousand years ago it was brought by monks to the northen parts of Europe. The dried flowers are still used in folkmedicine as a relaxant and diuretic and it is also used against diarrea. In herbal medicine it is used in different forms i.e. as a tea, essence, pulver, in bathsalts a.s.o. It is used against throatinfections, cough, asthma, reumatism, bronchitis, fatigue, stomachproblems and sleeplessness. From the flower you can also make a tea against headaches, nervousness, bloatedness, gases, dizziness and bad breath. A facial wash from lavenderflowers stimulates cellgrowth and helps against acne.
