Final Report, May 2007

So, I have come back to Umea in northern Sweden, this fantastic town - from 32 degrees centigrade in Singapore in just 15 hours to 2 degrees and rain and wind and warm jacket, gloves, cap... We, the people of the Tropics, we just ain't used to that.

Well, this journey around the Globe has gone just fine. Everything has worked perfectly. To travel around the world is almost an non-event, things work just like home, airports are alike, people do the same things, talk about the same things. It just looks a little different. But still...

But to be able to travel 1000s and 1000s of miles in class and feel very, very good and to see and do things in foreign land is a fantastic benefit for a small human being from little Umea. Most people I have met during the journey cannot even dream of such a thing. Now I just need a little sleep and to think and work my way through this adventure. And then it's time to start thinking about my next trip (don't you ever get enough..?) I have gathered a lot of Eurobonus points to do some travelling for, so I will.

Final impressions

Air travel, check-in, lounges: Soo good, business class is to be recommended. Best in class (sic!); SAS, really, is on the top side even if Thai and Singapore have their slender, young and beautiful stewardesses. They give nice service, though. Uniteds flight assistants seemed a bit tired, but that was compensated for (at least after a while...) by the fact that they weren't stingy about the booze and wine.

Airport: Best; Changi, Singapore. It really is one of the top airports of the world. Not far to walk, despite the size of the airport, check-in, security worked just fine, nice shops with good staff, the few ones I met at least. Worst: Frankfurt. So complicated to find your way, so much people hanging around everywhere and running all over. Up and down stairs in search of baggage. Check-in lines at Economy were terribly loooong. Luckily I travelled Business. There was no line there, only five-six staff just for me... And Fraport, do something bout the tobacco smoke all over the whole airport. Terrible.

Best airliner: Singapore Airlines brand new Boeing 777-300ER (Singapore-Frankfurt). Oh, oh, oh what a seat, nay, not a seat, a sofa turned into a flat bed, built into a small chamber, with lots and lots of space. I couldn't reach the seat in front of me if tried ever so much, small compartments everywhere, boxes, shelves for your things and belongings and drinks, a gigantic wide screen and entertainment to choose from: 100 (!) feature films, 22 radio channels, 182 TV shows, 700 (!) CDs and a number of PC games, built in PC with business software if you work during your trip. You could almost not find time to eat the delicious meal, or really, the two meals.

Hotel: Best in class; Harbour Plaza, Hong Kong. Expensive, but so good service. Eastern and Oriental in Penang, Malaysia; interesting relic of the colonial past. Worst: Nothing really.

Economics: Well, how can you afford all this. I just don't know. It is, if you dare count, reeeally expensive. I followed the budget made, though.

Best visited place: All, from Skane over Washington, San Francisco, Honolulu, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Penang to Singapore. Why else would I choose them..?

Would I do another journey like this again? Click YES if you want to, click NO if not: YEEES
