This type of nyckelharpa is more or less forgotten today - most nyckelharpa players who play the older type of nyckelharpa play silverbasharpa. However, I try to keep the tradition alive, and I've made this homepage to spread information and knowledge of this type of nyckelharpa - but I haven't forgotten to just play it for fun!
One of the reasons I made this homepage is to see if there are any people with information that I don't know of out there in cyberspace. So please don't hesitate to mail me if you have such information - you'll be doing something for the tradition! You might have a tune which is not on the list, or know a story from Österbybruk about some Österby Spelman, for example Harpar-Klas.

About myself:
My name is Sven Nordin and I'm from Haninge, 20 km south of Stockholm, Sweden.
I built my first nyckelharpa, a "Lundin-harpa," in 1977. A year or two after that, I heard Justus Gille and Viktor Vikman from Österbybruk on a vinyl recording, and I was sold on it.
Later on I was asked to repair an old ÖSTERBYHARPA, and I took the opportunity to take some photos and documentation of that harpa and built an exact copy. Since that time I have played that harpa as well as the more common ordinary chromatic nyckelharpa.
I become a "Riksspelman" on ÖSTERBYHARPA in 1983.
