Notice that any Pentax lenses with a bayonet mount are fully compatible with any Pentax body accepting bayonet mount lenses. There is absolutely no need to worry whether an autofocus lens will fit a manual body or a manual lens will fit an autofocus body. FA lenses - these lenses are intended to be used with the 'Z' series of cameras ('PZ' in the US). They transmit the MTF characteristics to the camera body. All FA zoom lenses support the power zoom function. FA* lenses have a clutch mechanism for their manual focusing rings. You push the manual ring towards yourself and you may manually focus the lens. Push the ring away from you and the lens switches to autofocus, and the ring does not turn during autofocusing. F lenses - these are the first generation autofocus lenses. A lenses - these are the manual focus lenses with an 'A' symbol on their aperture rings. They can be used on autofocus bodies in any metering mode and in any exposure mode. A* lenses have low dispersion glass element(s) in them (just low, not _extra_ low). M lenses - these are the first generation manual focus lenses. They do not support the program and shutter priority modes of the late Pentax bodies with these functionalities. I may buy their collection of tests, which have more complete data, bu for the moment this is all I have. Interestingly, the 85mm/1.4 got 5 stars. The only other lenses with 5 stars on the magazine were 3 Leica lenses: Leica Elmarit-R 60mm f/2.8 Macro Leica R Elmarit-R 90mm f/2.8 Leica Elmarit-R 100mm f/2.8 Apo Macro [maintainer's note: it seems to me that the 60mm and 55mm micro Nikkors as well as the Canon 45mm and 90mm tilt-shift lenses also got 5 stars in performance as well !
