![]() Intervju - Vinny Appice, ex Dio / ex Black Sabbath What are you up to right now? I´m writing songs right now with a few different muscians. Are you involved in any band/music projects at the moment? No Tell us something about recording or playing the songs from: Mob rules Recorded twice! Once in England for the Heavy Metal movie and agian in the US for our album. Dehumanizer Written and recorded in Wales, it was a good time for everyone in the band. Holy diver We were ready to ROCK and I think we did. Recorded in LA. The last in lineRecorded in Colorado at Caribu ranch, up in the moutains in the middle of nowhere. Some good tracks but I'd rather be in LA! Angry machines was your final (?) studioalbum with Dio. Do you think that was a worthy closure? It sounded good at the time. It was hard to write at that time being that Ronnie found it difficult to sing over busy riffs. Which song, of all your albums, stand out as your personal favorite? "Stand Up And Shout" and "Time Machine". What are your relation with Ronnie James Dio today? When was the last time you spoke to R J Dio? No relation. I called him many times, the last being his birthday 2 years ago and have not heard from him again. ![]() Are you still in touch with the rest of the guys from Dio? Yes, there are my friends. Of all the artists you´ve worked with, which ones have been the most fun and why? Ozzy, cause he is Ozzy! In 1983/1984 you were in Dio and your brother Carmine toured with Ozzy, both ex Black Sabbath leadsingers. Were there ever some sort of competition or bad feelings between the bands which was hard to handle as brothers? No, we thought it was very cool. We were playing the same venues at different times, so we would leave messages on the wall and ceiling for each other. According to some sources War and peace got a "handshake" deal with Charisma Records, but splitted before you managed to record anything. What´s the truth about that story? That is correct but it was taking forever and I recorded the WWIII cd and it still wasn't confirmed so I took the offer from WWIII for a tour. Name the 3 highlights and the 3 low points of your music career? - When I played with John Lennon. - When I played "Paranoid" onstage with Tony, Gez and OZ - My first gold record (Mob Rules) You´ve visited Sweden quite a few times. Any special memories from Sweden?
Always had a good time, and the fans were great! Do you remember the first time you were in Sweden? YES, It was cold. Favourite city? I like them all. You have been touring a lot during the years, what band has been the most fun to tour with? And worst? Any fun tour memories? Sabbth was fun on the Dehumanizer tour. Dio was alot of fun on the Holy Diver tour. There weren't really any tours I'd would call worst, how could that be when you are onstage playing music every night! What made you become a drummer and who influenced you in the early days? I saw Carmine play when I was about 8 years old and I decided that was what I wanted to do. What can we expect from Vinny Appice in the future? Some new music and kick ass drumming! I will be putting up a new website vinnyappice.com soon, so stay tuned!
